CARMA Version Tracker

Version 2.0 - Released August 27, 2008

Underlying plant and company data reflect the state of the global power sector as of early 2008 (53,980 total existing and planned plants). Data from the EPA Clean Air Markets division now supplements data from the EPA eGRID program. New emissions and power data disclosed by the Indian Power Ministry incorporated for year 2007. Small number of additional plant matches made with disclosed European Environment Agency data. Changes made to the CARMA estimation model to better predict power and emissions for plants where multiple fuel types are employed. Fixed error that was causing overestimation of capacity utilization in China. Plant geographic coordinates in United States updated to reflect EPA Clean Air Markets division data when possible. Estimated latitude and longitude extended to a total of 36,380 plants. City radial data extended to a total of 208,569 cities, of which 98,327 are in the United States. Eliminated “parent” and “operator” distinction for companies as it was causing confusion for some users.

Ongoing modifications for next release: Matching and incorporating a large amount of European plant data available through the European Union’s Emissions Trading System. Improving accuracy of geographic coordinate estimates. Addressing heat output from cogeneration facilities; omission can result in inaccurate carbon intensities at present.
